Caldwell Trust Company Honors Jim Woods’ 20 Years of Board Service with $5,000 Donation to Loveland Center

VENICE, FL – [May 28, 2026] – Caldwell Trust Company is proud to honor James R. “Jim” Woods for 20 years of exceptional service on its board of Directors with a $5,000 donation to the Loveland Center, a nonprofit organization that reflects Woods’ lifelong commitment to community service and support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Jim Woods joined the Caldwell Trust Company board in 2005 following a distinguished career in higher education, healthcare, and civic leadership. He previously served as Executive Officer of the Venice Campus of Manatee Community College, Dean of Academic Affairs at Hillsborough Community College, and President of the bon Secours Venice Hospital Foundation. A past Venice City Council member and a respected figure in Sarasota County, Woods holds degrees from Muskingum College (B.A.), Chapman University (M.A.), and a Ph.D. from George Peabody College for Teachers at Vanderbilt University.

Woods has served on an extraordinary array of nonprofit and civic boards including Coastal Behavioral Healthcare, Rotary Futures, United Way, SCOPE, Leadership Sarasota County, and both the Venice and North Port Chambers of Commerce. He remains active with the Venice-Nokomis Rotary Club, where he serves on the committee of the Teacher of the Year program and was honored with the prestigious “Doc” Matson Community Service Award.

His connection with Caldwell Trust Company began in 2005 under heartfelt circumstances. After retiring early to care for his wife following her health crisis, Woods was invited to join the board by company co-founder Jack Meyerhoff—an invitation sealed over lunch at Bogey’s and warmly welcomed by the Caldwell family, who were coincidentally seated nearby. “Having been a client of Caldwell Trust Company and because of my extensive community contacts, they felt I had some value to add to their Board. I was very pleased to be asked to join. I consider the people of Caldwell Trust Company to be a part of my extended family,” Woods said.

Over two decades, Woods has lent his leadership to Caldwell’s Audit and Trust Committees, providing wisdom, integrity, and community insight that have helped shape the company’s mission and long-term growth.

“Jim is the embodiment of servant leadership,” said R.G. “Kelly” Caldwell, Jr., CEO and President of Caldwell Trust Company. “His influence on our company and this community is immeasurable”. Jim leads with grace, intelligence, and heart—and it’s a privilege to honor his legacy with this donation to the Loveland Center, which mirrors his values of inclusion, dignity, and compassion.

Reflecting on this milestone, Woods said, “It has been a true privilege to serve alongside such committed professionals. I’m deeply touched by the donation to the Loveland Center. Supporting their mission means a great deal to me.”

Caldwell Trust Company celebrates Jim Woods not only for his two decades of board leadership but also for a lifetime dedicated to uplifting others and strengthening the community.
